It's named for Dr. Joel Poinsett, the first ambassador to Mexico from the United States. In 1828, he introduced the plant to the United States. Keep poinsettias at about 65 to 70 degrees. It needs 6 to 8 hours of sun a day. Only water it when the soil is dry to the touch. Never let water stand in the saucer.
