Some Facts About Poinsettias
----------------------------

Poinsettias are the most popular Christmas flower. Almost sixty million
poinsettias are grown in the United States each year. Its green leaves
and red or white star shaped petals are a familiar part of the holiday.

It's named for Dr. Joel Poinsett, the first ambassador to Mexico from
the United States. In 1828, he introduced the plant to the United
States.

Keep poinsettias at about 65 to 70 degrees. It needs 6 to 8 hours of sun
a day. Only water it when the soil is dry to the touch. Never let water
stand in the saucer.

Hint: for a poinsettia to bloom at Christmas, it must have fourteen
continuous hours of darkness every day from October 1 to about December
15.
