Background information about Hornyphon:
Hornyphon later produced video recorders too, but this was when it was
already part of the Phillips company.
Hornyphon's main field was producing radios. The company was biggest
1935-45 with 2500 employees, exporting from UK to Iraq, from Sweden to
South Africa. Back then the name never was any problem, perhaps the word
horny was not as common as now.
The name Hornyphon itself derives from the surname of my great-
grandfather, Friedrich Horny, not from the English word 'horny'. Because
he was producing radios, he named the company Hornyphon.
Horny in Austria is a rather common name, but now of course very funny
for visitors from English speaking countries :-). As is the village
'Fucking' in Upper Austria, where you can often see tourists taking
pictures of themselves in front of the Village welcoming plate.
